Dear Champions,
Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about why I am a Pap member. And, I came up with the following:
• Too many family members affected personally by cancer.
• A great way to give back and help save lives.
• Camaraderie with fellow members & friends.
• Having the same goal and vision with over 20,000 members – a world without cancer.
• Going to fun events all while raising funds for cancer research.
• Having access to a mentorship program where you can talk to a fellow cancer survivor that helps you through
the tough times of recovery.
• Having access to a physician referral program.

Let’s talk about the physician referral program. There are 3 ladies who handle the physician referrals and who are
always willing to help – Marilyn Ochs, Roberta Oberman and Jan Warmund. They will immediately try to get you a
visit with a doctor and it is always handled confidentially. For example, when I was told “there’s a mass on your
lung”, not knowing what it was, my first thought, go to Sylvester and find out. I was seeing a doctor within a few days
of talking to one of our physician referral ladies. You do not need a diagnosis, just that you need to see someone at
one of the UM Health facilities. The Pap Corps is here to help you. If you have a friend who is not a Pap member,
please encourage them to become one. There are many good reasons to do so, it could be life changing.

Before I close, I would like to personally thank all our volunteers who give of their time to make Pap a champion
organization. Without your efforts to make every event successful, we could not continue to support cancer research
at Sylvester. Our efforts provide them with vital funds that they need to continue their work so that there are more
and more survivors. So, “thank you” for everything that you do – your work does not go unnoticed.
