Sheila has established the CAHH Veterans Fund as a
tribute to her beloved husband, David Befeler, M.D. Befeler,
who passed away in 2022, was a skilled surgeon and a former
Army captain who served during the Vietnam War. “David’s

Sheila. “We could not think of any better way to honor him
than to create a fund in his name for veterans with cancer.”
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, veterans
have overall slightly higher rates (11.4 percent) of cancer

most frequently diagnosed cancers in veterans including
prostate cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, bladder
cancer, and melanoma.
“We are grateful for Sheila’s donation to establish this
fund that will help our local veterans with cancer,” said
