The first officers from the Women’s Club of Palm
Beach Gardens were Inge Bowdre, Natalie Snyder,
Barbara Bruce, Josephone Saad, Mrs. Bruce Weller, and
Thurza Branstrom (from left to right). The Palm Beach
Gardens Women’s Club has been a community service
organization with members dedicated to community
improvement by enhancing the lives of others through
voluntary service.
Arline Kiselewski, the 1976 Woman’s Club president,
presented a needlepoint, handcrafted crest to the city as
part of the country’s bicentennial. Every member of the
club participated in needlepointing a portion of the crest.
Symbolism of the city crest includes the Atlantic Ocean
and palm tree-lined beaches; the plaid representing John D.
MacArthur’s ancestral tartan; the banyan tree marking the
first entrance of the city at MacArthur Boulevard; and the
family, illustrating the desire to make this city a wonderful

The Women’s Club proudly participates annually in the
Palm Beach Gardens Arbor Day ceremony and donates
a tree to be planted at Lake Catherine Park. Pictures

And, unlike other mosques that have electric speakers
to call to prayer five times a day, this one is climbed by
the muezzin – all 140 stairs – to do the proclamations.
There are over a half million people living in the
metropolitan area of Constanţa. They are comprised of
six ethnic groups: Romanians, Turks, Tatars, Greeks,
Germans and Aromanians (the official language of
Macedonia). Four seasons and a moderate continental
climate set the tone for the lifestyles. It’s the beach
and the mineral springs that dominate the area in the
summer, and it snows, but not very much, in winter.
The winter of 2007 was the warmest in recorded
history.
Mobile, Ala., is one of the many sister cities of
Constanţa. One can see the connection with both
being located on seashores and other attributes. Fine
sand beaches are located some three miles north of
Constanţa on a long strip of land that lies between
the Black Sea and Lake Siutghiol. The area has all
the recreational facilities to enjoy a fantastic holiday.
The resorts in the area take their names from the gods
and goddesses of Greek mythology: Eforie, Jupiter,
Neptune, Olimp, Saturn, Venus and Mangala. At night
the numerous restaurants and night clubs hold the
interest of the visitors.
I’m sure you won’t find Constanţa on the list of
100 places to see before you die, but it is certainly a
fascinating place to visit if you get a chance.
