and permanent. Here is the
“skinny” on their recent
activity: It seems that some
manufacturers who advertise
prescription drug products
on TV, show the side effects in smaller print, or pass them by
too quickly to read, or distract the reader with peaceful back-
ground scenes which affect the reader…or other distractions
that only advertising people could devise. No more. The new
regulations effective in May state:
The information must be presented in a consumer-friendly
language and terminology that is readily understandable.
The audio information must be at least as understandable
as the audio information presented in the rest of the ad.
In ads in TV format, the information presented in the
audio portion of the major statement must also be presented
concurrently in the text of the ad.
In ads in TV format, the
information in text must be
formatted so that it can be
read easily.
The ad must not include
audio or visual elements
during the presentation of
the major statement that
are likely to interfere with
the comprehension of the
major elements.
So there it is! A new tell-it-as-it-is for the drug industry
(and the OTC, Over the Counter Industry as well.) This
should eliminate much of the internet advertising that we
know is untrue which clutters our channels.
Doctors report complaints to the FDA. Pharmacists do
also. You can, too if you see something obviously not right
with a medication that may be harmful to you or someone
else. The national hotline number is 1-888-463-6332.
