As we celebrate the New Year for Trees, let’s reflect
on the importance of gleaning. Tu B’Shvat is not just
about trees and nature; it’s about our connection to the
environment and our responsibility toward it, namely, to
not let any precious food go to waste. Gleaning, the act
of gathering leftover crops from farmers’ fields, teaches
us the value of sharing and not wasting. In a world where
food scarcity is a reality for many, gleaning becomes
a significant act of tzedakah (charity) and tikun olam
