2024 FEBRUARY Florida Atlantic University
Every year, the Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute hosts “Brainy Days”
during the month of March. The 2024 celebration of neuroscience
features free community lectures from internationally recognized
researchers in the neuroscience field, a hands-on STEM event for
children and a renowned “neuro-arts”exhibit.

Accelerated Induction into
Teaching
In December, the Accelerated Induction into Teaching
(AIT) program held its semester-end celebration
at Stadium Grill in Abacoa. The AIT program is a
collaboration between Florida Atlantic and local school
districts to address teacher shortages. AIT student
teachers serve as full-time teachers during their final
semester and have complete responsibility for their
own classrooms. In fall 2023, the program had 10
AIT student teachers, who were all hired at the same
school where they completed their student teaching.
Congratulations to these candidates who had a full-
time teaching position prior to graduation.
NeuroExplorers Spring 2024
Applications are now open for the spring 2024 semester
of NeuroExplorers, the after-school program hosted by
the Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute’s ASCEND program.
The six-week session begins March 28.
NeuroExplorers is designed for students in grades
6 through 8 to introduce them to the wonders of
neuroscience. Students use cutting-edge research
tools during lessons that build from cells and neurons
to neural networks and brain disorders. The program is
led by professional neuroscientists and their trainees in
partnership with the Cox Science Center.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
Woodward and Bernstein
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Florida
Atlantic is proud to present “A Conversation with Bob
Woodward and Carl Bernstein: From Watergate to
Today: Journalism, Accountability, and the Current
Challenges to American Democracy” at Florida
Atlantic’s Jupiter campus on Feb. 9.
On Feb. 15, join OLLI for a special moderated
discussion, “Resilience: Personal and Civic” with
prominent New York Times journalist and bestselling
author, Frank Bruni. Bruni is now a contributing Times
opinion writer and maintains a weekly newsletter offering
reflections on the mess (and magic) of politics and life.
