Hopefully, everyone had the
opportunity to enjoy time with
family and friends during the
holiday season.
As you begin to pack away your
decorations, please take the time to
inspect the ones that have electrical
wiring. There should be no exposed
wire from where the insulation has become worn or cracked.
If there is, they must be discarded so that it does not become
a fire hazard next holiday season.
Strands of lights can be taken to the recycling center.
If you had a live tree as part of your decorations, it should
be taken down and disposed of as soon as possible. Trees can
dry out very quickly, especially when the A/C is drawing
humidity out of your home.
Dry Christmas trees can create a significant fire hazard
and can ignite with intense flames very quickly with just the
slightest ignition source.
We are entering the dry season for natural vegetation.
Please use extra caution when enjoying the nature preserves
and all outdoor areas to make sure we all remain fire safe.
Improperly discarded matches and smoking material can
easily cause a brush fire that can spread very quickly.
If you see any fire in the natural areas, no matter how
small you may think it is, dial 911 to report it.
Small fires can grow to become a significant danger to
lives and property.
