        A Home, A Home,

        This Theatre

        Needs A Home

If you love the arts, and who doesn’t, try helping
Palm Beach Institute for the Entertainment Arts find
a new home. By the end of the year they must vacate
their quarters to make room for North Palm Beach’s
new Twin City Mall. They pay a “peppercorn” rent for
their 50-seat theatre, teaching rooms and audition space.
Its beginnings started over 40 years ago where the old
Jupiter Dinner Theatre used to be. Their guiding light
now, Donna Carbone, got her start there 20 years ago.
(The film star with a Jupiter Park named for him started
it all). Acting classes are held on Wednesday and Friday
nights. The institute puts on plays, helps comedians,
develops writing skills for new playwrights, develops
material for comedy workshops or helps folk who simply
want to write a memoir. Sessions normally last four
weeks, but you can renew, and for a pittance have some
fun by sharpening your own artistic desires. Here’s what
a typical week might look like.
Things change, we are flexible in meeting your needs.
        Monday
Creative writing: releases your inner author; short
        stories, plays, poetry, novels.
        Tuesday
Comedy writing workshop: for comedians and
        humorous speakers.
        Wednesday
All about acting: master the essentials for a successful
career in TV, theatre, radio or film.
        Thursday
Free night: Students use the stage and rooms to
rehearse, listen to experts, “spread their wings.”
        Friday
Advanced acting: a 10-week training program, live
your dreams, not your fears. Put on new shows that you
may have written! And you will meet great, friendly,
bighearted people who want to bring you along.
Teaching staff include Avery Summers of Broadway
and cabaret fame; Todd Veittum, acting coach and
producer; and Donna Carbone, writing and drama coach.
Psychologists advise that theatre can be a cure-all for shy
people, troubled youth, anyone needing their self-worth
restored, people with emotional distress and those who
have had setbacks in business. Will someone please come
to the aid of this theatre by finding them space at a low,
low rent? Donna Carbone’s recent plea for new space in
her appeal to the public says it best.
“By the end of 2024, we will be homeless. This is
our personal plea to former students, theater arts lovers,
mayors and council members of North Palm Beach, Palm
Beach Gardens, Juno Beach, Jupiter and Tequesta …
budding philanthropists and real estate tycoons. Please
help us to continue doing the great work that we do every
day. You would be surprised to know what miracles are
wrought on a 10- by 20-foot raised platform in 1,700
square feet of space by our small but caring nonprofit
organization. Please call this number to help or find out
more: (561) 743-9955. You’ll be glad you did. And thanks
for caring.” They need a new home.
