of this community, how
it functions, or are just
curious about this paradise
we call home. Briefly, a
parcel of land just over
1,000 acres was sold by the Hudson Bay Company (a
derivative of the same company that traded furs with
the Indians in Canada decades ago!) and segments were
sold off to individual developers who erected dwellings
of different sizes and shapes to meet the needs of their
buyers. There are luxury high-rise condos, medium-rise
condos, townhouses, coach houses, patio houses, garden
villas, single family homes, and attached houses. Each
segment is called a village.
Boca Pointe is presently composed of 33 villages. Its
boundaries stretch from Camino Real on the north to the
Hillsborough Canal on the south and from the Florida
Turnpike on the west to Boca Lago on the east. Running
through Boca Pointe is a state road (Powerline Road),
a county road (Southwest 18th Street) and three Boca
Pointe roads (Boca Pointe Drive, Promenade Drive, and
Via de Sonrisa del Norte). There are more than 40 lakes
and retention ponds within the boundaries that total 75
acres, with just 7 lakes belonging to the association.
The community contains: condominium units; 1272
single family homes; 295 townhomes/cluster villas; two
senior living facilities; a church and a synagogue; a fire/
rescue station; a bank; a commercial shopping center
(Wharfside Plaza) with a boardwalk, offices, retail shops
and restaurants; and finally, a country club with golf
course, tennis and pickleball courts and fitness center. B’H

It is not uncommon in Florida for a developer to fail
and file bankruptcy before the completion of the planned
construction. One such incident occurred in the area
where Costa del Sol and Costa Brava now stand. Original
plans called for a nine hole golf course to be built, and a
six story high-rise condo building on the Hillsboro Canal
with boat slips to be built for those interested in boating. FREE
