A Holiday Must!
‘A Christmas Carol’ At The
Maltz!
The Maltz was aglow with Christmas
cheer, champagne on silver platters,
children dressed in red velvet, and
seasonal lyrics ringing in the ear. The
spirit was alive in the holiday wear, with
reds, golds, and greens everywhere. The
champagne flowed, and lively young performers took to dancing
while singing fun and nearly forgotten old-time Christmas
favorites — and dressed accordingly.
An exhibit of “Holiday Communi-TREES” lined the walls,
each one a splendor to ponder. Twenty local not-for-profits came
together, decorating their own unique trees, some with a lot to
“say,” inspiring the meaning of the season and meeting needs
and offering the chance to vote on your favorite in support.
Ushering in the holiday season with A Christmas Carol,
written by Charles Dickens, this production is a unique rendition
and has promised a “fresh and joyful retelling of this holiday
tale.” The exuberance settles as the doors open for the nostalgic
play, everyone in quiet expectation, not quite in the know. The
curtains are drawn open, and here we go — the set captures the
essence of the year 1843.
The set, adapted specifically for the Maltz Jupiter Theatre
stage, seems almost undoable in its space, however with each
twist and turn of the tale, the set moves and changes gracefully as
well. So beautiful, intricate, and well done … for all intents and
purposes, you have traveled back in time while our Ebeneezer
Scrooge travels to the future.
The actors then take stage and once again you are blown
away. The intricate costumes, idyllic of years long ago, are perfect
and fitting for each actor’s portrayal in the show. Quickly you
start to notice too, some of the cast play many of the different
parts and as each one comes in you find yourself wondering, just happened in September. Absolutely remarkable! A Christmas Carol at the Maltz was absolutely beautiful
