Abacoa Community Garden
October ushers in an exciting chapter in our garden’s yearly
calendar, as it marks the beginning of our planting season. The
Planting Committee has been conferring with garden members
as to the popular choices for community bed plantings,
ordering organic seeds and laying out the design. Their design
includes crop rotation to optimize nutrient combination while
deterring the nematodes and other end-of-the-year diseases.
The kickoff unfolded on the first Saturday of October
with a delightful breakfast gathering at the garden. It was
an opportunity for newcomers to learn about the garden
and to learn about the nuances of organic horticulture
within the unique microclimate of South Florida.
Volunteers signed on as “Bed Buddies” taking on the
