The AmeriCorps Seniors program of United Way of
Martin County hosted a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony and
Walk to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11,
2001 terror attacks. More than 1,000 individuals attended
the event that was held at Jock Leighton Park in Palm City.
AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers distributed 2,977
American flags and asked participants to pay it forward
to honor the lives lost on 9/11. The program included
remarks from Martin County Commissioner Ed Ciampi, a
dance tribute performed by Turn Up The Heat and a 9/11 Commissioner Ed Ciampi at United Way of Martin County’s
remembrance walk across the Veterans Memorial Bridge Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony

we encouraged individuals to pledge to help a person, our
community or our nation through an act of kindness or
service,” said United Way of Martin County Director of

Sept. 11 National Day Of Service And Remembrance
Sept. 11 is Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and
Remembrance. On this day Americans across the country are
called to volunteer in their local communities in tribute to the
individuals lost and injured in the attacks, first responders,
and the many who have risen in service to defend freedom.
